When people talk of posh French resorts, Courchevel 1850 usually comes up tops but before Courchevel was Megève, founded in 1916 by the Baroness Maurice de Rothschild as an alternative resort to Gstaad and Saint Moritz. Megeve was the original glamour resort, and in the 1950's claimed more crowned heads of state among it's guests than any other place in Europe, and it's now on the comeback trail.
Megève is very much a traditional French resort, an old town that oozes charisma and traditional Alpine charm, famous for it's elegance, it's chic boutiques, cosy bars and fine restaurants, In 2001 Megeve was awarded the prize of 'Gastronomy Town of the year', and with over 80 restaurants including the 3-star Michelin restaurants La Ferme de mon pere, it's no wonder why.
All in all the resort is a wonderful place to have a winter sports holiday, great for families or groups of various abilities, with enjoyable ski runs surrounded by beautiful alpine scenery. The skiing on the "Evasion Mont Blanc" ski pass consists of Mont D'Arbois, Rochebrune, Saint Gervais, Saint Nicholas, Mont Joly, Jaillet, Combloux, Cote 2000 and Les Contamines, over 420km of piste served by over a hundred lifts. Megeve offers superb skiing and snowboarding at all levels
